Since last year, upon the effectivity of a law providing additional benefits to the nation’s centenarians, the Department of Social Welfare and Development in Region 11 has granted the P100,000 cash benefit to each of the 107 centenarians in the region.
Speaking at the Face to Face with the Mindanao Daily Mirror yesterday at the Royal Mandaya Hotel, Rebecca Sta. Maria, acting DSWD regional director for operations, said that such benefits were already released.
Under the law, all Filipinos who reach the age of 100 years, whether residing in the Philippines or abroad, shall be honored with:
(a) A Letter of Felicitation from the President of the Philippines congratulating the celebrant for his or her longevity; and
(b) A Centenarian Gift in the amount of one hundred thousand pesos (P100,000).
“Eleven na lang ang wala pa matagaan and are due to receive their benefits next week,” Sta. Maria said.
She encouraged family members who have relatives turning 100 to submit their names to the DSWD office and comply with the standard documentary requirements.
“Walay pabor-pabor ni, kwartahan man o pobre, basta maka abot ka ug 100 years old, you are qualified,” Sta. Maria said. Richy Nalagon
