Five indigenous tribes are set to see action in the 5th Dula Kadayawan IP (Indigenous People’s) Games this coming August 17 at the People’s Park, which has become an annual event to showcase the traditional games and sports being played by our local fore fathers.
According to event chairman and the local tribes chieftain Tomas Jose Inigo also referred to as ‘Datu Tahabikal,’ in their native dialect, the five major tribes that will take part in the competitions are the Bagobo Tagabawa, Bagobo Klata, Obu Manovu, Matigsalog and Ata for the Lumads while for the Moro tribes these include the Maguindanao, Maranao Iranon, Sama and Kagan.
The games for the Moro tribes will be held 2:30 PM onwards while the opening ceremonies will be at 8AM. The Lumads will first take center stage with their events from 9AM-2:30PM.
The defending champion for the Lumads for 2 consecutive years running is the Bagobo Klata Tribe.
Among the events to be played for the Lumads are the Siklot, Sisibow, Solopot, Pana, Bubuntog, Kokasing, Osoroy (Tug of War), Sosakoro, Totaringki, Karang and Bibinayo while for the Moro Tribes are the Sipa Sa Lama, Sipa sa Manggis, and Tug of War.
In addition, individual prizes per match will be up for grabs for the Moro Tribe competitors namely P15,000 for the champion, P10,000 for the 1st runner-up, P8,000 for the 2nd runner-up and P2,000 for the 3rd and 4th runners-up.
Meanwhile, the over-all champion for the Lumads will pocket P80,000, the 1st runner-up P70,000, the 2nd runner-up P60,000 and the 3rd and 4th runner-up P30,000 each respectively. (Leonard Paul Palo)
