Wherever you go, nurses always take the lead…may it be in the hospital, health centers, clinics, offices, military field, other medical facility, ambulance, airline, among others. Simply because we nurses always lead the people in the community.
To honor all fellow nurses around the world, May 12 of every year is celebrated as International Nurses Day. This year’s theme is “Nurses: A Voice to Lead, Achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).”
Jessica Mae D. Alaban, RN, MAN, president of the Philippine Nurses Association Inc. (PNA)-Davao City Chapter, said the PNA Davao Chapter is the accredited professional organization representing the city’s thousands of nurses. “We take an active role in celebrating this event,” she said.
At Southern Philippines Medical Center (SPMC) in Bajada, staff nurses joined the world’s ever-exciting celebration with activities such as Zumba Workout for everybody, free blood pressure taking, blood glucose checking, among others.
The PNA Davao Chapter president said it was a simultaneous activity participated by hospitals and nursing schools. Free BP and blood sugar checkup were done in the morning while Zumba Workout in the afternoon, she said.
Other than the SPMC, hospitals like MDMRC, DDH, Brokenshire, DMSF, Malta Medical Center and SPH also joined this remarkable event.
During the Inter-hospital Zumba Workout, SPMC got the 1st place while Malta Medical Center, Inc. landed as 2nd place.
To all the winners and participants during the International Nurses Day celebration, kudos and keep up the good work!
