The military has condemned what it says is the continued exploitation of minors by the New People’s Army.
Capt. Ryhan Batchar, spokesperson of the Army’s 10th Infantry Division, said that among the NPA members killed in a recent encounter with government troops in Brgy. LS Sarmiento Laak Compostela Valley were two minors.
They were identified only as Jeje, believed to be 15, and Erica, 17, of Kapalong Davao Del Norte.
The NPA clashed with combined forces of the Army’s 25th and 60th Infantry Battalions in Brgy. LS Sarmiento Wednesday early morning. This resulted to the death of eight NPA members, military sources said. Recovered from the battle scene were several high-powered firearms.
“Gina-condemn nato ang padayon nga paggamit sa New People’s Army sa mga minors, ilabi na mga bata, especially one of whom was a girl,” Batchar said.
Sources within the military told the Mirror that they would try to coordinate with the victims’ families in order to find out how and why the minors ended up in the company of the NPA. Richy Nalagon
