The Philippine Army in Davao Oriental arrested three suspected members of the New People’s Army (NPA) after exploding an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) intended for members of the 67 Infan-try Battalion early morning on Saturday in Sitio Ma-gong-ong, Barangay San Rafael, Cateel, Davao Oriental.
In an interview with Mirror, Capt. Andre Cabales, acting spokes-person of the 10th Infantry Division (ID) said the 67th IB troops were passing through Sitio Magong-ong on their way to Sitio Taga-dao, Barangay San Rafael in Cateel when the IED exploded. But no one was reported, Cabales said.
Cabales said the troops immediately dis-embarked from the vehi-cles and conducted a checkpoint operation to track down the suspects. Upon arrival at the site, 1LT Buslon of 67 IB, presented the two persons caught in the act of detonating another IED.
The arrested persons were identified as Joedel Latiban Nuñez, and Tantan Dela Cerna Bacquiao. Re-covered from the suspect’s possession were more or less 70 meters electrical wire, assorted batteries, blasting cap, backpack and a cellular phone.
Further investigation also resulted to the arrest of Glen Cadalzo Enijada, who was riding in a black motorcycle without plate number used as a getaway vehicle while another suspect identified as Simeon Pamugas managed to escape.
Cabales said the arres-ted persons were members of the NPA.
Cabales said the Cateel Municipal Police Station also dispatched a team to conduct ocular investigation. The arrested suspects were brought to Cateel Municipal Police Station for proper dispo-sition.
