The Regional Trial Court in Digos City has ordered the arrest of self-confessed member of the Davao Death Squad Edgar Matobato for a frustrated murder case filed against him by a retired agrarian reform adjudicator.
The arrest warrant, which was issued by RTC Branch 19 Judge Carmelita Davin on March 2, was released on Tuesday. Judge Davin has set the bail bond at P200,000 for Matobato.
It may be recalled that retired Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) Adjudicator Abeto Salcedo Jr. filed a case against Matobato, whom he was able to identify last year when he saw the latter on television during the Senate hearing.
In his complaint Salcedo said he was able to identify Matobato as the person who shot him while he was coming out of the DAR office in Digos last October 23, 2014. When he saw Matobato appeared in the Senate hearing, Salcedo said he immediately called the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) for assistance.
Matobato was presented by Senator Leila de Lima in the Senate as witness to the existence of the Davao Death Squad (DDS). The hearing was cut short because of inconsistencies in Matobato’s testimony.
In the said warrant, Davin said Matobato should be brought before the court as soon as possible.
