A long distance bike ride from Davao to Mati City in Davao Oriental is set on September 23, which has an estimated length of about 300km dubbed as the “Audax Brevet Ride.”
According to the organizers of this event, the onsite registration will start at 3 a.m. for the 200km riders as well as the pre-ride check. The Audax ride from Microtel Suites in Lanang will begin at exactly 4 a.m..
At around 7:35 a.m., the riders are expected to reach checkpoint 1 (Shell Gas Station) near Apokon Road, Tagum City (along the Surigao-Davao Coastal Road), which is the 57.2km mark.
The participants are estimated to arrive at checkpoint two at around 2 p.m., which is the en-trance to Mati City (appro-ximately 160km).
At 5:46 p.m., riders are expected to have passed the third checkpoint (the viewpoint in Punta Linao, Banay-Banay, Davao Oriental), the 220.4km section of the route.
At 8:26 p.m., riders will be expected at checkpoint four (the Shell Apokon Gas Station), the 263.2km mark of the entire route going back to Davao.
Finally by midnight (12 a.m.-September 23), all participants are slated to be at the finishing area (Microtel Suites, Lanang).
The registration fee for the early birds are set at P1,100 (from August 1-September 20). For the regular and onsite registra-tion (September 21-23), the fee is P1,300. An additional P850 will be charged for riders who wish to secure an Audax finisher medal.
Finisher medals are standard across all Audax-accredited countries and are all sourced from France. Medal payment for non-finishers will be refunded.
Included in the regis-tration fee is the accredita-tion of your ride with Audax Club Parisien, complimentary drinks and bananas, a packed post ride meal, limited edition Audax multi-purpose head-wear/gaiter, which will be launched in Davao City for the first time.
Participants are advised to read and review the Audax Ride Rules. They are also required to have the proper bike lights since the ride begins at twilight (4 a.m.).
In addition, all cyclists are reminded to be self contained and prepared on the road for any eventuality (extra cash, mobile phone, extra provisions, copy of the route map, cue sheet, patch kits for tires, tools, adequate hydration, etc.).
Riders should be mindful of the cut-off time for each checkpoint and be well rested. For further guidance please check the cue sheet which will be provided with photos and Strava data. This data shows half of the entire ride route. Riders will be passing or covering the same back route going back to their point of origin.
Organizers are expec-ting the riders to be res-ponsible enough for their actions. They must be aware of the designated route. Similar to all Audax rides around the globe, no marshals will be on hand for this long and arduous ride, thus cyclists are reminded to be more conscious of their movement.
For the information of the participants and those who may want to witness the event, this is a non-profit ride with an unrestricted pace. But again all partici-pants are reminded that this is not a race or competition. The objective is to actually finish the ride within the 20-hr period. In case of regis-tration refunds, transac-tions will be entertained until September 20 on or before 5 p.m..
Advance registration will be at the Microtel Suites by Wyndham Davao from August 1-September 20. The onsite registration will be from 5-7 p.m. on September 22 at the hotel lobby. Late registrants will still be accepted on Satur-day morning right before the start at 4 a.m..
