GENERAL SANTOS CITY (PNA) — An alleged “big time” drug pusher who was included in the government’s drug watchlist was wounded after resisting arrest during a drug buy-bust operation in Koronadal City on Wednesday night.
Chief Insp. Jomero Sentinta, deputy chief of the Koronadal City police station, said their operatives were forced to shoot suspect Eduardo Dolendo, 45, after he drew a handgun in an operation at the barangay gymnasium in Purok Ramos, Barangay Sta.Cruz at around 6:45 p.m.
He said Dolendo initially sold a sachet of suspected methamphetamine hydrochloride or shabu worth P1,000 to a police officer who posed as a buyer.
But he said the suspect noticed the presence of the other police operatives near the area and tried to flee.
“We already cornered him but he drew a handgun so we were forced to shoot him,” Sentinta said.
Dolendo was hit on his right leg and abdomen and was rushed to the South Cotabato Provincial Hospital.
Recovered from the suspect’s possession were five heat-sealed plastic sachets containing suspected shabu with an estimated value of P10,000, a P1,000 marked bill, various drug paraphernalia and a homemade pistol with a live ammunition of an M-16 Armalite rifle.
The illegal drug operation, which was backed by personnel from the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency in Region 12, was witnessed by barangay officials and local media workers.
Sentinta said the suspect is considered a “notorious and big time” drug pusher, and reportedly part of an illegal drug group operating in the area.
He said they earlier got wind of the illegal activities of the suspects through a tip from a local informant that was validated through surveillance operations.
Glorio Sandig, action officer of the Koronadal City Anti-Drug Abuse Council, said the recovered evidences from the suspect showed that he is a “higher level” drug pusher.
He said their records showed that Dolendo already surfaced and voluntarily surrendered to authorities last year but resumed with his illegal activities.
Sentinta said they sent the recovered evidences to the South Cotabato Scene of the Crime Operatives or SOCO crime laboratory for proper examination.
He added that the suspect would be charged for violation of sections 5 and 11 or selling and possession of dangerous drugs, under Article II of Republic Act (RA) 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drug Act of 2002, and RA 10591 or illegal possession of firearms and ammunition.
