The Bike Out 2017, A Fun Ride For A Cause around the major thorough-fares of downtown Davao, organized by Cycle for Life, Sikad Tambayan Dabaw and the Recreatio-nal Outdoor Xchange (R.O.X.) this coming August 27 at 6 a.m. does not only hope to gather bike enthusiasts for a day of joy riding and fun but also plans to educate the general pub-lic, the cyclists as well as other motorists concerning bike riding safety and more.
Monica Ayala, repre-senting Cycle for Life, Dexter Maxino of Sikad, and Mae Sanchez of R.O.X. bared during the event’s launching a few weeks back that more than just the usual conclave of cyclists, the 2017 Bike Out aims to raise more aware-ness regarding road safety for cyclists and motorists alike especially in major thoroughfares, and particu-larly at night time where visibility is quite poor.
“This ride will be short and quite easy. It’s actually designed for the entire family. But we will be en-forcing the no gear, no ride policy. So, all participants have to be equipped with their safety helmets, shoes, gloves, biking apparel, hydration gear etc. to be able to join,” Sanchez said.
According to Ayala, participants are encou-raged to bring blinkers or bike lamps which will be donated to help illuminate the path at night for bike riders on the road, thus preventing or lessening vehicular mishaps involving cyclists.
“A lot of regular bike riders out there including those who use bicycles as their means of livelihood have become victims of road accidents mainly because of poor visibility on the road. This is our way of helping them out and encouraging them to be better equipped in order to avoid if not lessen these sort of accidents from taking place,” Ayala cited.
