Naturalized center Andray Blatche of the Gilas Pilipinas men’s basketball team and guard Calvin Abueva are included in the top 10 best performers list for the ongoing 2017 Southeast Asian Basketball Association (SEABA) Cup Basketball Championship, which the country is presently hosting.
The 6’10 Blatche has a 58.8 percent field goal percentage, with a 28.6 3 point percentage, which isn’t that bad for a big man who also needs to make his presence felt in the paint. This puts the former New Jersey Net in the 9th over-all spot behind Sandy Febiansyakh Kuniawan of Indonesia and Van Hung Nguyen of Vietnam.
On the other hand, the spitfire Abueva of the Alaska Aces in the PBA is in second overall with 54 percent field goal rate and averages 15.6 points per game in just 19.2 minutes on average at the floor for Gilas.
Aside from these two standouts, newcomer Jio Jalalon who has shown his prowess from the wings with a whopping 72.7 field goal percentage and an 83.3 percent free throw rating. Jalalon ranks num-ber 30 in the overall top stats list while Terrence Romeo and June Mar Fajardo both share the 22nd spot.
Gilas currently holds the top spot in the tournament which is a prelude to the FIBA Asia Cup with a spotless 5 and 0 win-loss record followed by Indonesia (5-0), Thai-land 4-2, Malaysia 2-3, Singapore 1-4, Vietnam 1-4 and Myanmar 0-5.
As of press time, Gilas led by multi awarded coach Chot Reyes will be tackling Indonesia for their final assignment.
