DAVAO CITY (PIA) – The Nabunturan Independent Film Exhibition (Nabifilmex), in partnership with the municipal tourism council, municipal government of Nabunturan and the provincial government of Compostela Valley, will host on August 22-29 the 9th edition of Cinema Rehiyon.
Karen Santiago-Malaki, festival director, said that the Cinema Rehiyon 9 will feature 93 short films and 12 full length films, which are the best independent films from the regions.
The short films, which will run from 1 minute to 20 minutes, are composed of 28 from Luzon, 31 from Visayas and 34 from Mindanao.
Malaki stressed that the unique characteristics of this year’s Cinema Rehiyon is the showcasing of the film in an open-space cinema, since Nabunturan does not have any indoor cinema.
Bryan Jimenez disclosed that the Nabifilmex partnered with the Open Air Foundation in Thailand to put up an inflatable screen at the Nabunturan municipal plaza.
Cinema Rehiyon is a flagship program of the National Commission for the Culture and Arts (NCCA).
Malaki also bared that the Nabifilmex hopes for the groundbreaking of the Nabunturan Cinematheque to happen during the festival.
The cinematheque is a project of the Film Development Council of the Philippines, which will be located in an 800 square meter area in Nabunturan. PIA11, Michael Uy
