CAMP VICENTE LIM, Calamba City – Afternoon classes have been suspended in the provinces of Laguna, Batangas and Cavite following the Magnitude 6.3 earthquake that struck Nasugbu, Batangas at 1:28 p.m. on Friday.
Regional Director Olivia M. Luces of the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) in Calabarzon and head of Regional Disaster risk Reduction and Management Council (RDR-RMC), told PNA here that classes in all levels in both public and private schools were immediately cancelled in Nasugbu, Batangas.
The quake epicenter was traced around 18 kilometers southwest of the town of Nasugbu, with a depth of 177 km and tectonic in origin according to the PHIVOLCS bulletin.
Cancellation of afternoon classes in all levels in both public and private schools were reported from Sta. Rosa City, Laguna; Imus City, Cavite; Calaca and Mabini, Batangas.
Laguna Governor Ramil Hernandez has also posted in social media to advise residents “to pray and stay safe” as the provincial government continuously monitors the aftermath of the quake as PHIVOLCS expects aftershocks.
The Santa Rosa City government also ordered cancellation of work in all government offices.
The school management of the University of Perpetual Help System Dalta in Barangay Paciano in Calamba City also ordered students, faculty, staff and university personnel to vacate the buildings and proceed to the track oval and open spaces in campus for their safety and security.
As of press time, no reported damages or casualties were monitored.
Luces said OCD-RDRRMC Calabarzon comprising Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal and Quezon is now continuously coordinating with the provincial and local disaster risk reduction and management officers (PDRRMOs/LDRRMOs) to monitor their respective areas of responsibility (AOR).
In the Calabarzon Region, Intensity 4 was felt in Nasugbu, Calatagan and Balayan, Batangas; Rosario, Maragondon, Noveleta and Dasmariñas City, Cavite. Saul E. Pa-a/PNA
Intensity 3 was reported in Tagaytay City; Canlubang and Calamba City; Indang and Alfonso, Cavite; Cainta and San Mateo, Rizal.
Intensity 2 occurred in Sta. Rosa, Laguna; Tanauan City, Batangas; and Lucban, Quezon; while Intensity I was felt in Talisay, Batangas. Saul E. Pa-a/PNA
