The riders from Davao City showed their prowess in the recently concluded 2017 Araw ng Davao Cycling Challenge taking most of the titles in the various age categories and events of the competition sanctioned by PhilCycling (Integrated Cycling Fede-ration of the Philippines), and backed by the Sports Development Division-City Mayor’s Office along with Livestrong Builders Inc..
According to Phil-Cycling VP for Mindanao Salvador ‘Badong’ Paholio Jr., a total of 80 riders joined the one-day cycling affair coming from as far as Koronadal City, Tagum and Kidapawan.
“We are very happy with the huge turnout as well as the performance of our local riders,” he told the Mirror, the other day.
Paholio added that be-sides the large participation of cyclists, Davao based rider Brian Contamayor’s feat in the 15 and under Roadbike competition was also another tale to tell, as he overtook Koronadal City’s Francis Carrera in the last 4 kilometers to-wards the finish despite suffering a flat tire. Con-tamayor clocked in at 1:07:29, while Carrera tallied 1:08:21.
For the Male BMX event, the champion was Davao City’s Dion Tristan Pinton with a time of 5:21, while sibling Herbert Basti Pinton landed 2nd with 5:23, Contamayor took the third spot with 5:59.
So Kim Cheng Sports awardee and Batang Pinoy standout Myra Regina Acedo dominated the com-petition in the girls mountain bike event with a time of 4:44 followed by Feliza Joy Abellana (6:05) of SM Lanang and Cristine Jill Dansigan of Tagum with 6:45.
