A 21-year-old Da-vaoeño has stolen the thunder in the ongoing Mayor James Gamao National Invitational Tennis Championship 2017 at the twin city courts in Panabo City, Davao del Norte.
Toril, Davao City na-tive Michael Accion beat third seed Ilonggo Vicente Alberto “Onyok” Anasta 6-3, 4-6 (10-4) on Thursday.
Ranked 10th in the tournament, Accion is very happy to beat Anasta since the latter has constantly beaten him in previous encounters.
Accion, who is a gra-duating tennis scholar of the National University in the UAAP is confident he can advance in the semi-finals of the netfest pre-sented by Merco and Se-lecta and supported by the Philippine Sports Commis-sion, Engr. Glenn Olandria, Bioxtend, Stronghold Insu-rance, Swiss Deli, Mamma Marias by Paul Abao, Rocky’s Barbershop by Timtom Gempesaw, Asia-traders, Slazenger and Dunlop.
Meanwhile, the top seed in the tournament Patrick John Tierro of Subic also won his opening match.
Tierro used his veteran savy to survive past Jan Godfrey Seno of Cebu, 6-3, 6-4.
