The Davao City Police Office (DCPO) is leaving no room for complacency as it closely monitors suspicious people who may sow terror in the city.
This developed after text messages warning people of terror attacks have been circulating after Monday’s twin explosion in Tacurong City, Sultan Kudarat. A text message also purportedly aimed to help residents in villages affected by the recent earthquake, and yet another was a supposed intelligence report of bomb threats in Central Mindanao area that also includes Davao City.
A text message even named the aliases of persons who would bomb six cities. For Davao City, unidentified members of the terror group, Maute, are reportedly taking charge.
While they have no verification on such messages, DCPO Director Sr. Superintendent Alexander Tagum said they would regard every information seriously.
But he said there is no cause for alarm and further assured that all police units are on the look-out for the possible presence of terrorists.
He also asked Davaweños to stay vigilant and conscious of their safety.
This was the same stance of the military’s Eastern Mindanao Command and its 10th Infantry Division.
Eastmincom spokesperson Maj. Ezra Balagtey said that after the incident in Bohol they are closely monitoring possible diversionary tactics by the lawless groups. They have also strengthened their intelligence operation.
According to Balagtey, pieces of information are coming in pieces, like a jigsaw puzzle. He said they, too, received similar text messages that terrorists will conduct atrocities.
10th ID spokesperson Capt. Rhyan Batchar even encouraged people to keep the information coming because this helps security forces in their intelligence monitoring. Ayan C. Mellejor
