The Davao police abides with President Duterte’s order to get rid of checkpoints, Davao City Police Office spokesperson, Senior Inspector Catherine dela Rey confirmed.
The no-check point policy started October 31, she said. She however confirmed police will conduct checkpoints as the need arises such as during anti-illegal drug operations and other major police operations.
The President has ordered the dismantling of checkpoints nationwide a day after Mayor Samsudin Dimaukom of Datu Saudi Ampatuan town, in Maguindanao province, and nine of his men were killed in a supposed gunfight with the police in a security checkpoint in Makilala, North Cotabato province.
Duterte said checkpoints cause inconvenience to people though he however stressed checkpoints will only be established for legitimate reasons and if necessary.
Instead of checkpoint the police authorities will strengthen police visibility in crucial areas of the city to maintain peace and thwart any attempts of violence.
Dubria also directed police detachments and stations to be well-lighted at all times to assure the public of their presence. Richy Nalagon
