COTABATO CITY – Police in nearby town of Sultan Kudarat, Ma-guindanao have arrested Monday morning a man in possession of 30 sachets of illegal drugs.
Chief Insp. Esmael Madin, Sultan Kudarat town police chief, identified the suspect as Datu Enok Engkong, 59, a resident of Barangay Malinawon, Pagadain City.
Madin said the police had received a tip from concerned citizen about the expected transport of illegal drugs from Sultan Kudarat town to Pagadian City.
He said Engkong was driving his motorbike on his way to Pagadian City when flagged down in a police checkpoint in Barangay Dalumangcob at past 9 a.m.
He did not resist arrest but denied he was drug pushing. Seized from him were 30 small sachets of methamphetamine hydrochloride with a total street value of P15,000.
Madin believes Engkong is part of a drug ring operating in Maguin-danao, North Cotabato and Sultan Kudarat that supplies prohibited stuff to Pagadian City.
The town police chief said the suspect was daring as going to Pagadian City by land from Sultan Kudarat would mean several police and military checkpoints due to the Marawi City crisis.
The suspect also provided police investigators with high value intelligence information that could help authorities dismantle drug syndicates in its area of jurisdiction.
Engkong is now detained at Sultan Kudarat municipal detention cell facing charges for violation of Republic ct 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002. EOF/PNA
