President Rodrigo Duterte took the opportunity of correcting impressions that he enjoys extra-judicial killings (EJK) during his meeting with more or less 180 delegates of the 11th Ambassadors’ Tour Philippine Reception held at SMX Convention Center.
“Balita ko sa America daw maraming galit na human rights sa extra judicial killing (I heard in America there are many human rights (advocates) angry at extra judicial killings). I do not enjoy the EJK term. I cannot just go killing people. I got my education mostly from the priests so I grew up in religion. But you know when I became a mayor and because I was very strict on crime this is my statement to the Davaoeños and I am sure they will tell you the truth,” Duterte told visitors.
The 11th Ambassadors’ Tour was attended by more than 180 participants coming from North America, which is considered as one of Philippines’ top tourism markets. The delegates are Filipino-Americans from New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Chicago, Hawaii, Nevada, Florida and new market Mexico.
It aims to entice Filipino-Americans to deepen their appreciation of the Philippines and to attract not only Filipino-Americans but also foreign tourists to see and visit various destinations in the Philippines. The gathering also aims to promote the Philippines as a safe place to travel.
In his speeches, Duterte keeps on reminding criminals not to destroy his land because he will kill them.
“Wala naman tayong pera ang anak natin sumasakay ng jeep…sasaksakin, hold-apin tapos patayin (We really have no money our children ride jeepneys…stabbed, held up and then killed) and you just say human rights all around the world are human rights. That is really bullshit to me. Sinabi ko huwag mong sirain ang Pilipinas at papatayin talaga kita (I am telling you do not destroy the Philippines and I will really kill you). Do not fuck with my children because I will really kill you,” Duterte said.
Duterte also challenged “to find him a law wherever you come or in any country that says one cannot threaten a criminal.”
“Is there a law that exists you cannot do it? Is there a law that says you cannot blurt such statement do not bring all children to perdition because you will lose your life,” he said, citing, as an example, the recent Bulacan massacre that killed five victims including three children aged 1, 5 and 11.
Duterte said he has his promise during the campaign period knowing the deterioration of the law and order in the country, as well as the number of innocent victims, killed almost every day. Maya M. Padillo
