President Duterte repeated his commitment to resign from office if any of his children are found to have violated the country’s anti-graft laws.
At the blessing of a real estate project here, he said: “Let me repeat my promise to the people and a commitment, and you have my word for it: Kung isa sa mga anak ko, si Inday, si Pulong, pati si Sebastian, ma-involve sa corruption, just show me the papers and let me talk to the guy who knows about it. Then I will resign tomorrow.”
The President brought up the matter about his children because a witness to a congressional hearing on the alleged P6.4-billion drug shipment from China, a Mark Taguba, mentioned the name of Vice Mayor Paolo Duterte. Taguba later admitted that the unflattering payola reports were all a rumor.
The vice mayor himself has declined to respond to the news report, other than to say it was beneath his office.
It was at the Philippine Development Forum: Sulong Pilipinas 2017 last Wednesday in Manila when the president first declared he would relinquish his office if his family was dragged into corruption issues. Lovely A. Carillo
