A former member of the Philippine Army died while his companion was arrested during the implementation of a search warrant by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) in Brgy. Visayan Village, Tagum City, Wednesday.
The subjects of the search warrant were Maria Shalika Cheng February, 39, and Roel Valcurza Sahiron, 32, a former member of Philippine Army.
Sahiron pulled out his .38 revolver and shot it out with the authorities, which resulted to his death, according to PDEA 11 spokesperson Noli Nelphi Dimaandal.
He was rushed to the Tagum Provincial Hospital but was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician.
Six small sachets of suspected methamphetamine hydrochloride, commonly known as “shabu,” weighing more or less three grams with a street value of P45,000, eight tablets of suspected Pseudo Ephedrine, assorted drug paraphernalia, a .22 caliber revolver and live ammunition were recovered during the implementation of search warrant.
Authorities say Sahiron was one of the notorious drug perpetrators operating in Tagum City.
In an interview, Dimaandal said that surveillance was conducted for two months before the implementation of the search warrant.
“Dugay-dugay gyud na sya ginamonitor kay notorious man gyud na sya nga tao, base sa information nag awol daw na sa army,” Dimaandal said.
