From 35,000 per day, the number of travelers at the Davao City Overland Transport Terminal (DCOTT) shoots up to 50,000 daily in time for the Holy Week. This is a huge jump but normal every Lenten Season. DCOTT Manager Aisa Usop had assured they have prepared for the traffic increase particularly on security matters. She announced the installation of 20 new CCTVs of which two are moving cameras is a big boost to ensure security of the travelers and the entire facility. Aside from this, security guards were also given specific instructions on their postings to safeguard the passengers.
People from all walks of like flock at DCOTT these days. Obviously, this will continue when everyone is scheduled for summer getaways to various resorts or respective hometowns. By the flooding of passengers, inspections should be strictly enforced to ensure the safety of the people. DCOTT became a spot of terrorist attacks in the past. These should serve as reminder to DCOTT security and management to be always on guard and triple efforts on maintaining security in the area especially at this time of the year.
Bombs being placed inside buses have been an incident in the past. Laxity on inspection could be blamed on this. For, if the checking was enforced firmly no criminals with bombs could sneak in. But it’s a two-way responsibility. The commuters should also bear in mind they have the obligation to be always on their toes against criminals. They are the best guardians of themselves by being vigilant and alert at all times during their journey. This is most important to families traveling with children who should be doubly careful to secure their loved ones. The entire summer is travel and leisure month. Let us all be reminded to take extra care. In case of emergencies, presence of mind is a must.
