An alleged gang leader died while two of his members were arrested in two separate operations launched by the Calinan Police on Saturday in Calinan, Davao City.
Calinan Police Station Commander, Chief Inspec-tor Michael Uyanguren, said the operations were launched after a robbery incident at the vicinity of the public market where three persons robbed a barbeque stall of its cash earnings and a cellular phone.
The police response resulted in the arrest of Arthur Batingal and Jual Ken Serrano, both of legal age but their alleged leader eluded arrest. The police seized from the possession of Batingal and Serrano the stolen items.
In a follow-up opera-tion on Saturday night, the alleged gang leader identi-fied as Clark Tambis Ortega alias Klay Klay, 21, a resident of Teachers Village, Calinan, was killed when he engaged the ar-resting police in a shootout.
Uyanguren said Ortega has police records from theft, robbery and involvement in riot incidents in Calinan. Uyanguren said Ortega was a minor when he started to get involved in illegal activities and was in and out of detention cell.
Uyanguren said cases will be filed against Orte-ga’s arrested companions.
