GENERAL SANTOS CITY—A wife of a rookie police officer was wounded in a gun attack by motorcycle-riding suspects near their home in a village here on Tuesday night.
Police Sr. Insp. Robert Fores, deputy chief of the Makar police station, said the victim, Police Officer 1 John Mark Enoy and his wife, Teresa May were walking towards their home in Block 4, Bulaong Village in Barangay Labangal at around 6:10 p.m. when two unidentified suspects suddenly fired at them.
Insp. Fores said the couple just came from a nearby store to buy instant coffee when the shooting happened.
PO1 Enoy, who is assigned at the city police’s intelligence branch, was unhurt in the attack but his 27-year old wife sustained two gunshot wounds on her back, Fores said.
Fores said the victim was rushed to the Mindanao Medical Center here and presently undergoing treatment.
He said the suspects, who were aboard a Honda XRM motorcycle, fled to unknown directions after the shooting.
The police official said the circumstances of the attack indicated that PO1 Enoy could have been the main target of the suspects.
It appears that the incident was planned and the gunmen had already been waiting for the police officer, he added.
Fores said they are currently looking into several angles, including work-related circumstances, as possible motive of the attack. (AC/PNA)
