Cabinet members of the administration are quite feeling stressed out nowadays with the random sacking of some of their colleagues accused of graft and corruption based on presumption since investigations on their cases are still pending with the ombudsman. For those who are yet planning to go wayward, in all probability, are now thinking twice for fear they would suffer shame and humiliation for being publicly judged as corrupt the moment they are kicked out. As President Duterte announced, more officials are on their way out maintaining his tenet that he will continue to fire anyone of his men at the slightest hint of corruption, and worse, even if it’s not true. Who of the officials won’t feel nervous about such principle that even if it’s not true, and coming from the mouth of the highest executive of the land saying publicly “you’re fired” because you are suspect of corruption. Maybe, for thick-faced officials -no bother.
For those who are perhaps clean but sweepingly ascertained as corrupt would mean disaster on their part, family most especially, and friends. Imagine, you are fired because of corruption charges that has yet to be confirmed probable by the anti-graft body. For those who really committed the irregularity, good riddance, they deserve it and they should have no place in the Duterte administration that hates illegal drugs and corruption from the beginning. At the height of the election campaign, the President already made clear his stand against corruption, and now, it shows, he meant what he had said. So, if a cabinet member knows he does not deserve to be there, because he or she is corrupt, should best evaporate at this early. With so many eyes and ears of the president, mere attempt of corruption will be sniffed.
With heads rolling a bit fast is more than a warning. The administration is serious in cleansing government regardless who would be hit by the president’s ax. His standard is rather unfair for the straight ones yet mistakenly tagged corrupt. It could be perceived that he is pushed to the wall to make good his campaign promise. But like illegal drugs, corruption has become widespread. The country is even included in the world’s top list of most corrupt countries. In this light, it wouldn’t be far only a few would be left in the administration. This is too hypercritical, however, if we have to base on the president’s harsh standard of just a whiff of corruption and no truth at all would mean goodbye, then a flight of both suspected corrupt and veteran corrupt officials looms. Are their replacements not corrupt? It should be, otherwise, government operations would be on a standstill with unclear direction due to the frequent changing of guards.
