A homegrown Davao City based team is now being assembled in time for the next season of the new Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL), which is reportedly being backed by businessman and special consultant for sports Glen Escandor.
This was bared recently by Davao Go-Duterte selection team manager and SBP (Samahang Basketball ng Pilipinas) regional operations chief Ronel Leuterio, who also announced the organization’s upcoming events for the month of September.
‘We are currently in the process of forming the new Davao team for the MPBL and we’re looking at a team that’s composed purely of locals since we really want to give our homegrown talents, especially the newcomers the break that they have been waiting for and they deserve,’ Leuterio said.
A number of players who are from Davao City including those in existing MPBL squads, the UAAP, NCAA and the present Davao Go-Duterte selection roster are being eyed by the management of the soon to be launched team but no final announcements have been made yet as of the moment.
‘We will be officially announcing the name or moniker of the team as well as the full line-up when everything is in place,’ the former Ateneo De Davao head coach and Davao Eagles assistant coach said.
Meanwhile, the SBP XI will be staging its regional 3 on3 basketball eliminations this coming September 22-23 at a still undisclosed venue and its coaches’ seminar this coming September 29 -30 which will be handled by former San Miguel Beer champion coach Jong Uichico and other coaches from Metro Manila.
