MANILA–Over a week after being charged with two counts of graft by the Office of the Ombuds-man over his alleged misuse of his P30-million pork barrel fund in 2012, Senator Gringo Honasan on Thursday said that he is “completely innocent” and ready to prove it.
“I am completely inno-cent of the charges against me,” Honasan, former military leader, said in a short press statement.
Honasan said that he has faced several allega-tions all his life and that this new one is not any diffe-rent.
”All my life I have fought everything I am accused of, and I will con-tinue to do so,” he added.
On Thursday, the San-diganbayan Second Divi-sion ordered Honasan’s arrest citing “probable cause” to arrest him for graft.
Honasan is the fourth senator to be charged for pork barrel fund misuse. Other senators charged were former senators Juan Ponce Enrile, Jinggoy Es-trada and Ramon Revilla Jr. who were charged with graft in 2014.
In 2013, the Supreme Court deemed the pork barrel as “unconstitu-tional.” PNA
