The secondary boy’s volleyball team of Jose Maria College ruled the recent 80th Araw ng Davao Inter-School Invita-tional Volleyball Tourna-ment titles at the Almendras Gym Davao City Recrea-tion Center last April 17.
JMC beat the tough University of Immaculate Concepcion, 25-21, 25-13 in the finals to win a trophy and P5,000 cash prize.
The team coached by Alma Fox reached the championship match after defeating the Davao City National High School (DCNHS), 25-18, 25-20, in the semi-finals.
JMC spiker Jimuel Guial who carried his team to victory was declared as the most valuable player (MVP) in the tournament.
Meanwhile, in the distaff side, the Ateneo de Davao University volley-belles proved once again they are powerhouse in women’s volleyball in Davao City after ruling the secondary girls volleyball division of the same tour-nament.
Addu overcome a loss on the first seat to bring down JMC in the finals 21-25, 25-21, 32-30.
Ateneo player Kyla Cordova was declared as MVP in the girl’s division.
Aside from the cham-pionship some special awards were also given to the outstanding players in the tournament such as Jorbyn Caasi (best server), Joma Crisostomo (best setter), Edward Bisquera (best blocker), Jericho Locabarte (best attacker), Journee Cataag (best scorer) and Alma Fox (best coach) while the girl awardees were Micha Crisanto (best libero), Jessa Erojo (best server and best scorer), Fujimoto Takako (best setter), Kaye Gaba-yan (best blocker), Katrina Blanco (best attacker) and Kirk Mojica (girl’s division best coach).
The event was earlier presented by the Sports Development Division-City Mayors Office in partner-ship with the Davao Volley-ball Association. Romeo Braceros
