Women made names in many ways – politics, entertainment, charity works. But Davao’s own Joji Ilagan-Bian inspired people as a leader whose life is devoted to developing the potentials of young people; moulding their minds and transforming their lives through education.
Bian’s legacy of deft business skills and passion makes her one of the 100 Most Influential Filipina Women in the World 2017 (Global FWN Award). She received the award last October 2 at the Hotel Intercontinental, Toronto.
The Most Influential Filipina Women in the World Award recognizes women of Philippine ancestry who are influencing the face of leadership in the global workplace, having reached status for outstanding work in their respective professions, industries and communities. They are recognized for their achievement and contributions to society, femtorship (mentorship) and legacy.
“As a woman business leader I had transcend genders and has stood firm in my belief that women leaders are strong; straightforward and are results-oriented,” Bian said. Bian is the only awardee from Mindanao among six awardees from the Philippines.
Other countries and US states represented by the awardees FWN 100 are from United Kingdom (Hertfordshire and London), United Arab Emirates (Dubai and Ras Al Khaimah), United States (California, Washington DC, Maryland, Michigan, New Jersey, Oregon, Virginia), Italy (Bergamo and Rome), Switzerland (Berne), Czech Republic (Prague), Hungary (Budapest), Norway (Oslo), Netherlands (Noord-Holland), Mozambique (Maputo), Canada (Richmond, Vancouver, Mississauga, Ottawa, and Toronto), Austria (Vienna) and Australia (South Australia).
Her beauty and intelligence mesmerize and energize but her compassion endures especially her sustainable contribution that she had done across all sectors and segments of society resulting in empowering communities and people she had worked with.
“My leadership and my network of influence also in multi-sectoral groups whether in business or in education and my involvement along the years with some non government organizations (NGOs) here in our own country or globally had allowed me see all kinds of perspectives which greatly helped me move my advocacies and my personal philosophies forward,” Bian said.
A game changer in business and education aspects, Bian uses a combination of vision, skills and strength tempered with resilience, tenacity and genuine care to guide her always as she continue to take the journey of creating more opportunities for people to develop their full potentials.
Bian deserves such recognition as she continues to empower, inspire and widen the scope of everyone’s dreams.
The Global FWN100 award cohort recognizes those who have reached status for outstanding work in their respective fields and who are recognized for their leadership and achievements in the global workplace and their local communities.
The Global FWN100 Selection Committee ensures that nominations are reviewed fairly. Nominees are selected by a rigorous vetting process which includes a determination of nominee’s global Filipina imprint, a personal interview, a review of the accurateness of the nomination submission, answers to the criteria questions, social media and internet vetting, and a chat with her references and/or nominator.
“Everything is so well organized and it’s impressive and awarding is done every two years so next awarding is 2020 and venue is in Washington. But every year all of us meet for networking etc,” Bian said.
