House Committee on Labor Chair Karlo Alexei Nograles yesterday urged the Housing and Urban Development Coordinating Council (HUDCC) to look into the increasing number of complaints against real estate developer Property Company of Friends or more popularly known as Pro-Friends due to various malpractices.
Nograles also urged the next Congress to immediately conduct an inquiry on allegations ranging from non-delivery of units that were already paid for in downpayment or in full and or are patently sub-standard once the units were turned over to their clients.
Nograles said that he was told that there are already hundreds of complaints against Pro-Friends but the past HUDCC leadership simply kept them under the rug.
“There are too many horror stories about Pro-Friends. You can read complaints from clients right in their own website and Facebook page. Even You Tube is filled with videos of housing units built by Pro-Friends that are falling apart shortly after being turned over to their clients,” Nograles said.
In one of these videos, a house that was just built by Pro-Friends and sold to an OFW in Imus could be seen with a long cracks on the wall and the roofs were already leaking.
In other cases, there are entire housing subdivisions built by Pro-Friends that have no proper drainage that cause severe flooding, defective sewerage system and substandard materials were used for construction.
“What’s really heartbreaking is the fact that many of the victims are families of overseas contract workers or some factory workers who worked so hard to save up in order to finally have a home that they would really call their own,” Nograles said.
There are also many complaints against Pro-Friends for allegedly failing to deliver their promised housing units but refuses to pay full refund of the downpayment made.
In nearly all complaints, Nograles said that Pro-friends turned over substandard housing units and far more inferior to the specifications that they presented when they were still selling them.
“I think that HUDCC should suspend the operation of Pro-Friends and conduct a deeper probe on these mounting complaints against them. This is also something that Congress should also investigate thoroughly,” Nograles said.
