MAGSAYSAY, Davao del Sur — Heavy downpour since Saturday night triggered a landslide that destroyed a low-lying concrete road connecting a public elementary school in Lower Asbangelok, Barangay Bacungan here.
This was reported on Monday by Joseph Penonia, Municipal Disaster Risk-Reduction and Management Officer, who said that a shanty was also swept away by floodwaters and five others were partially damaged prompting residents to relocate to safer ground.
Penonia said the farm-to-market road project funded through Payapa at Masaganang Pamayanan (Pamana) under the Office of the President, was just completed more than a year ago.
He said they are still assessing the exact total cost of damage to infrastructure, houses and properties.
Meanwhile, another landslide also took place in the neighboring Barangay Tagaytay but no damage was reported.
But Penonia said they are now considering the plan to relocate the barangay hall, health center and adjacent buildings after they were found to be prone to landslide and earthquake because these are located in hilly portion of the village. Anthony S. Allada/PNA
