Two Davaoeño lovers have won gold for their respective schools in the recently finished 79th University Athletic Asso-ciation of the Philippines (UAAP) chess tournament at fourth floor, Henry Sy Sr., DLSU Manila.
Fide Master Austin Jacob Literatus from Toril, Davao City finished first in board 3 to help the National University successfully defend its men’s chess title in the UAAP.
Literatus was on fire in the whole tournament as he finished unbeaten in 14 games to get a gold for his team in board 3.
With his win in board 3, NU was able to score 44 points to emerge champion in the men’s team event over FEU (39 points) and University of the East (UE, 33.5).
In the women’s chess division, Buhangin native Rowelyn Joy Acedo also got gold in board 3 and helped De La Salle Univer-sity (DLSU) to finished second in the UAAP wo-men’s chess tournament.
Acedo who happens to be the girlfriend of Lite-ratus is very pleased with his first place finish since he was able to retain the gold she got in board 3 last year.
The Davaoeña is also happy because she ends her five-year stint as DLSU chess scholar on a high note.
DLSU in the women’s chess tournament had an identical 44.5 points with Far Eastern University but FEU took the championship due to a superior Tie breaks. Romeo Braceros
