Promising Davao City boxer Loreto “Hitman” Loreto has failed in his quest to become a world boxing champion on Saturday, July 15, in Chonburi, Thailand.
Loreto, a resident of Calinan, Davao City, suffered a unanimous decision defeat at the hands of World Boxing Asso-ciation (WBA) straw-weight champion Tham-manoon Niyomtrong.
All the three boxing judges of the bout picked Niyomtrong as the winner in their fight with the scores of 117-110, 117-110 and 115-113.
With his defeat, Loreto dropped his record to 23-14, 15 KOs while the Thai champion remained un-beaten after 16 bouts.
The decision of Loreto to drop three pounds be-fore the weigh-in has took a huge toll on the boxer as he felt weak majority of the world title fight.
Despite his defeat, Loreto remained humble and fully accepted his loss.
Loreto is set to rest in the next five months and chart his boxing future after that rest.
