MANILA (PNA)–The Commission on Elec-tions (COMELEC) reite-rated that it has no plans of extending the April 29 deadline of the nationwide voter registration for the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) polls.
Though there is only less than two weeks before the scheduled closing date, COMELEC Juan Chair Andres Bautista admitted that they don’t see any reason to prolong the registration period, which started on November 7, 2016.
“We have no plans of extending. Voters have been given enough time to register,” he said.
According to COME-LEC Resolution No. 10166, the Commission may adjust or suspend the registration period when deemed necessary.
With this, Bautista called on those who are qualified to register as voters to file their applica-tions for registration in order to avoid long lines.
“Let us not wait for the last minute before filing our applications,” he added.
Applications for regis-tration, transfer and trans-fer with reactivation, reactivation, change or correction of entries and inclusion or reinstatement of records in the list of voters shall be filed in all Offices of the Election Officer (OEOs) of the city/district/municipality from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Mondays to Saturdays.
Satellite registration activities are also being held in every barangay nationwide and are ready to receive applications on varying dates.
As of March 25, the COMELEC reported that it has already received a total of 2,174,601 applica-tions for registration.
