A squad leader of the New People’s Army (NPA) Pulang Bagani Command 4 claimed he was deceived by the communist rebels into joining the rebel movement by offering education and money.
Alias Jun-jun,18, who was recruited and joined NPA when he was just 15 years old, showed up at the AFP-PNP Press Corps yesterday said the NPA’s cheating on him pushed him to voluntarily surrender to the military together with his girl friend, also a young rebel last Monday in Sitio Patil, Barangay Gupitan Kapalong, Davao Del Norte.
“Nisulod ko kay gusto ko mo eskwela unya nagpromisa man sila nga paeskwelahon ko (I joined the NPA because I want to go to school and they promised me to send me to school,” Jun-jun told reporters during the AFP-PNP Press Corps on Wednesday at the Royal Mandaya Hotel.
As an NPA member, he said he participated in about six operations that led to encounters with government troops including the burning of heavy equipment in tin Kapalong, Davao Del Norte and Monkayo Compostela Valley.
He also recalled joining lumads to Haran where he stayed for one month and to Manila to attend protest rallies.
After three years, he however realized the promises given to him were not realized prompting him to leave the NPA together with his girlfriend.
10th Infantry Division Spokesperson, Capt. Rhyan Batchar, said they can find ways to assist Jun-jun’s education.
Jun-jun and his girlfriend are now in the custody of the 60th Infantry Battalion. Richy Nalagon
