Members of the New People’s Army on board two elf trucks attacked a palletizing plant and burned a van in Sitio Pao-Pao, Barangay Sinawal in General Santos City at dawn, Thursday, a day after the NPA’s 48 anniversary.
Captain Rhyan Batchar, spokesperson of the 10th Infantry Division of the Philippine Army said the plant and van was owned by Dole Philippines.
“The incident is part ng extortion activity ng mga New Peoples Army, few days ago gisunog pud nila ang van sa usa ka banana plantation sa Maragusan, Comval province,” Batchar said. He said they have yet to ascertain the amount of damage pending result of ongoing investigation.
On the NPA 48 anniversary on March 29, soldiers belonging to the 25th Infantry Battalion clashed with a group of NPA rebels under Guerilla Front 33 at Montevista, Compostela Valley Province.
The battled lasted for an hour specifically at Purok 4, Barangay New Dalaguete in Montevista. After the fight, the troops recovered an IED, backpacks and other personal belongings left by the fleeing rebels. After further scouring the area the following day, the troops recovered an M16 Rifle and subversive materials.
Major General Rafael Valencia, 10ID commander lauded the troops of 25IB and condemned the NPA . “A day after celebrating their anniversary, the NPA showed their true anti-people nature by attacking the facilities and equipment of a business firm that give livelihood to thousands of people,” he said.
“This attack on a civilian entity shows that after 48 years, the NPA cannot win a revolution and they can only attack helpless non-military objects, thus proving once more that they have become a nuisance propaganda army of the communists,” Valencia said.
