The city government has earmarked P13 million for this year’s Pasko Fiesta celebration although this has yet to be approved by Mayor Sara Duterte who is the chairperson of the executive committee.
“This year’s budget is around P13 million which is a slight increase from last year which was P10 million,” City Administrator Zuleika Lopez said in an interview yesterday.
Lopez said the slight increase in this year’s Pasko Fiesta was due to the addition of several activities.
“We also increased the prizes and we now have more participants,” she said. Compared to last year with only three winners, Lopez said this year’s Pasko Fiesta will have 10 winners to include the consolation prizes.
The Pasko Fiesta sa Davao is a yearly Christ-mas event in the city spearheaded by the city government in partnership with the private sector. It follows the Filipino tradition of celebrating Christmas and the principle of sharing and merrymaking.
Pasko Fiesta aims to light up the whole city during Christmas by encouraging the private sector especially business establishments to light up the facade of their stores.
There are several activities during the Pasko Fiesta including Kahayag sa Davao where establish-ments are urged to light up their facade and the Parada ng mga Parol where schools, organizations and families will have one big parol or Christmas Lantern with a minimum size of 6 feet by 6 feet.
The parol should be mounted on a vehicle ideally with the maximum size of a multicab. The entry should be accom-panied by 30-50 persons who will enhance their parol with smaller parols.
Another feature of the Pasko Fiesta is the Banda Dasig, a drum and bugle corps competition which is also encouraged to be lit up, Koro sa Pasko which is a chorale competition, and Parol sa mga Barangay. Lovely A. Carillo
