TAGUM CITY, Davao del Norte (PIA) – More than P3.49-million worth of illegal drugs were burned on Tuesday in Panabo City in celebration of the National Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Week.
The illegal drugs burnt comprised of 245.0268 grams of methamphetamine hydrochloride or shabu with an estimated street value of P2,940,321.60 and 9,137.50 grams of marijuana with an estimated street value of P550,404.
According to Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA), the illegal drugs were evidences in more than 30 criminal cases from Regional Trial Courts, Branch 4 and 34 in Panabo City and Branch 32 in Lupon, Davao Oriental.
PDEA Davao del Norte Provincial Agent Claudito Cañada said that the burning of the illegal drugs is to erase the wrong notion and doubt that there is recycling of illegal drugs.
The burning activity was led by Panabo City Mayor James Gamao and Vice Mayor Janrey Gavina.
Mayor Gamao stressed that the destruction of the illegal drugs evidences was a manifestation that the city government and law enforcement agencies are serious in the fight against drugs in the city. PIA11, Michael Uy with reports from Renel Balsabas of CIO Panabo
