Police on Monday detained a pastor of the Butuan-based Oceans of Life Ministries after he was arrested for illegal possession of firearm in a random checkpoint jointly conducted by the Task Force Davao and the Sasa Police in Kilometer 11, Sasa.
Police Chief Inspector Emerson Pugong, Station Commander of the Sasa Police Station identified the arrested person as Filmar Balingit Rodriguez, 36, married and a resident of Butuan City. Rodriguez will face charges for illegal possession of firearms Pugong said.
Rodriguez was flagged down by Sgt. Reylito Bestes Esteconing of TF Davao and PO1 Jian Baylosis of the Sasa Police. When the plain view search was implemented on Rodriguez, authorities found a colt MK IV .45 caliber pistol with one magazine loaded with seven ammunitions placed beside the driver seat.
When asked about the pertinent papers, Rodriguez cannot present documents, Pugong said.
Asked by reporters, Rodriguez said he came from Digos City for Tagum City to visit a relative confined in a hospital.
“Gikan mi sa Digos sa akong magulang nagkuha gamit ,pagbalik namo naa nay checkpoint, pag ingon nga abrehan ang bag, giabrehan nako kabalo ko nga naay pusil (We came from Digos from an older sibling to get belongings, when we returned there was a checkpoint and so when asked to open the bag I opened it and I know there’s a gun),” Rodriguez said.
Rodriguez claimed he bought a gun for P3,000 because he received a death threat. He said he wanted to register the gun but he needs an amnesty.
