The dream of Ateneo de Davao University (Addu) Blue Knights to take the Philippine Collegiate Champions League (PCCL) Escandor Cup 2017 crown is off to a flying start at the Almendras Gym Davao City Recreation Center.
On Saturday, the first day of the tournament the Blue Knights demolished STI College, 105-73 to start their championship dream on a high note.
The Blue Knights leaned on the solid scoring of Ivan Sandiego, Dave Angelo Sotto and James Doblado to bring down STI.
The Holy Cross of Davao College Crusaders also started strong in the tournament after they beat the Agro Industrial Foundation College (AIFC) 69-65 in the second game.
Meanwhile, from the original 14 participating teams, the roster was trimmed down to only four as the 10 other teams were disqualified by the Samahang Basketbolng Pilipinas (SBP) 11.
SBP 11 executive program officer RonelLeuterio disqualified the teams for their failure to attend the opening ceremonies.
The tough decision was supported by SBP officers including regional commissioner Lawyer Francis Calatrava, education committee Billy Cruzada and consultant MacarioCabonce.
Leuterio explained that it was agreed during the coaches’ meeting last October 9 at The Royal Mandaya Hotel that all teams will attend the opening program with their uniforms, otherwise, they will face disciplinary action.
The only remaining teams in the tournament are AdDU, HCDC, AIFC and STI. Romeo Braceros
