BORACAY ISLAND, Aklan (PNA) — The Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO) is studying reviving its negotiations with the Ayala Water firm over water usage tax.
MerleneAborka, PENRO chief for technical operations, said that the negotiations with the Ayala group to pay water taxes have previously failed due to legality issues. Lawyers of the Ayala group reportedly asked for parameters on how should the water usage fee be taxed in this resort island.
Report said the Ayala group, which is a major potable water distributor in this resort island, is currently planning to expand its services to other nearby towns of Aklan.
Also included in their plan is the possible expansion to nearby town of Pandan, Antique.
“Currently, we are studying the local government code on how we could effectively collect water usage tax from the Ayala group,” said Aborka.
