ISULAN, Sultan Kudarat – Police here are following a lead that could identify the gunmen who ended the life of provincial radio-print journalist Leodoro Diaz Monday.
Senior Supt. Raul Supiter, Sultan Kudarat police provincial director, said investigattors are hunting down the perpetrators based on the statement issued by the victim’s son.
“We are digging deeper, we have some leads and we are following it without let up,” Supiter said. He refused to provide specific details on the investigation.
Diaz, 60, was driving his motorbike when shot at around 8:40 p.m. Monday in Barangay Kalanawi 2, President Quirino, this province.
Chief Inspector Joan Resurrecion, Pres. Quirino town police chief, said Diaz, his son Cris Jay and a female relative were riding with him but they escaped unhurt.
Diaz, provincial writer of Manila Bulletin and Balita tabloid, died on the spot from multiple gunshot wounds.
Supiter said police are determining if the murder was work related or personal grudge. Even the victim’s son could not say if it was work related, saying his father has no known enemies.
However, Supiter said Diaz was a hard hitting newspaper columnist discussing illegal drugs and corruption in his daily column. He writes for Gen. Santos City-based Sapol tabloid.
Supiter also appealed to anyone who has information about the Diaz murder to help the police locate the perpetrators. EOF/PNA
