Preparations are already being marked for the staging of the 2017 Araw ng Dabaw ‘Mayor Inday Sara and Vice Mayor Pulong Duterte Cycling Challenge’ set on March 19 at the vicinity of Barangay Maa, Langub and Magtuod, Talomo District.
This was revealed by PhilCycling Deputy Secretary for Mindanao Salvador ‘Badong’ Paholio Jr. to the Mirror yesterday.
This event sanctioned by the Integrated Cycling Federation of the Philippines (PhilCycling) will be having the road bike category, mountain bike for boys and girls (19 under, 15 and 13 years and under) and will be introducing the BMX competition for the first time.
“This event is aimed once more to hone the skills of our local riders as well as to provide a regular avenue for them to continuously compete and gain ample exposure in this sport,” Paholio explained in his letter for the City Sports Development Division Office under its OIC Maikee Aportadera.
PhilCycling Davao is hoping that the city government and Mayor Sara Duterte can shoulder the budgetary requirements for the staging of this cycling affair which offers cash prizes, trophies and medals for the winners in each category.
In addition, the association also thanked the city for its generous support last year as well as including cycling in the 2016 Kadayawan Festival calendar of events that helped elicit a noteworthy result for the Davao riders during the 2016 Batang Pinoy in Tagum City.
Notable riders who gained much during this competition were 2016 Batang Gold medalist Richard Handumon Jr. in the boys 17 under category, Myra Regina Acedo in the girls 15 under, Brian Cantomayor in the boys 15 under and Mario Buro also in the Boys 13 under.
