Why discretion changes everything in professional services

The right guidance is only useful when it stays between the right people.

Most advisory relationships work best in the background. When you're weighing a major compliance question, restructuring an agreement, or reviewing an audit trail, the last thing you need is noise. At House Partners, discretion isn't a policy statement — it's the operating standard. We work quietly, communicate clearly, and make sure sensitive matters stay sensitive. Our Pietermaritzburg office has supported clients across KwaZulu-Natal since 2011, handling engagements that range from routine compliance reviews to complex multi-party advisory briefs. Every engagement begins with a confidential conversation, and that's exactly where it stays until you decide otherwise.

Four disciplines, one roof

Our core service lines cover the advisory cycle from initial strategy through to compliance sign-off.

Consulting

We cut through ambiguity and give you a concrete read on your situation — market position, operational gaps, or strategic direction. Our consulting engagements produce written recommendations you can act on immediately, not slide decks that gather dust.

Advisory

Ongoing advisory retainers give you access to experienced counsel whenever a decision requires a second opinion. We operate as a sounding board for owners, directors, and senior managers navigating complex or politically sensitive choices.

Audit Support

We prepare organisations for internal and external audits, identify exposure points before they become findings, and support management responses when things don't go to plan. Thorough, methodical, and low-drama.

Compliance

Regulatory requirements shift constantly. We track the changes that affect your sector and translate them into practical action — drafting policies, updating registers, and keeping your obligations current without turning your office upside down.

“House Partners handled a sensitive restructuring review for us in mid-2023 that involved three separate parties, each with their own concerns. The process was managed so quietly that two of our board members didn't realise it had concluded until we presented the final report. That's exactly the level of discretion we needed.”

— Themba Dlamini, Director, Durban

How we work with you — and what to expect

A clear process means you're never guessing where your engagement stands.

Every engagement at House Partners follows a structured path. We begin with a scoping call — typically 30 to 45 minutes — where you describe the situation in your own words and we identify the right service line to apply. From there we issue a brief letter of engagement outlining scope, timeline, and fees in plain language. No surprises. Work is conducted by a named lead consultant who remains your single point of contact throughout. Deliverables are shared securely, and all materials are retained under our document management protocol for five years. If a matter falls outside our expertise, we say so directly and, where appropriate, refer you to a specialist we trust. We don't take on work we can't do well.

Questions clients usually ask before their first call

Straight answers to the things most new clients want to know before they pick up the phone.

Do you work with individuals or only businesses?

Both. We advise private individuals on matters such as estate planning compliance and personal financial governance, as well as small and medium-sized businesses across KwaZulu-Natal. The engagement process is identical — a scoping call, a letter of engagement, and a named consultant.

How do you protect sensitive information?

All client documents are stored on encrypted servers and shared exclusively through secure transfer links — never by standard email attachment. Team members sign non-disclosure agreements as a condition of employment. Access to any file is logged and audited quarterly.

What industries do you serve?

We have active clients in retail, property, healthcare administration, non-profit governance, and professional practices such as law and accounting firms. We don't limit by sector, but we do assess whether we have sufficient expertise in your area before accepting an engagement.

How long does a typical engagement take?

It depends heavily on scope. A focused compliance review might conclude in two to three weeks. An ongoing advisory retainer runs month to month with a 30-day notice period on either side. We always provide a timeline estimate at scoping stage so you can plan accordingly.

Are fees fixed or hourly?

We offer both models. Project-based engagements carry a fixed fee agreed before work begins, so you know the total cost upfront. Advisory retainers are priced as a monthly arrangement. We discuss both options at the scoping call and recommend whichever suits your situation better.
