Seasoned runners Elias Tabac and Giegs Castillo emerged as big winners in the First Mt. Megatong Trail Run Challenge held over the weekend in Sto. Tomas, Davao del Norte.
Tabac, a native of Bayugan, Agusan del Sur topped the men’s 32-kilometer race with a time of four hours and 36 seconds. Taking the next four spots were Marjuter Retes (4:42:56), Jeorge Andradel (4:47:38), Jabes Pido (4:51:30) and Nerejun Saromines (4:53:08).
In the women’s side, Castillo, representing Davao Ultrarunners took first place with a time of 9:14:00. The second to fourth spots went to Jessa Bolanio (9:14:02), Johang Cordita (9:39:29), Cecilia Larobis (9:53:16) and Azenith Balbutin (9:59:00).
The champion and the top four winners got P3,500, P2,500, P2,000, P1,500 and P1,000 as prizes.
The organizers of the race also awarded special prizes to winning runners namely: Team Titans Davao (biggest delegation), JabesPido (fastest 32k runner of Department of Environment and Natural Resources category), Samantha Red Pido (youngest female runner), Liza Sanches (oldest 32k female runner) and Manuel Vismano (oldest 32k male runner).
The Ata Manuvu tribe residing at the foot of Mt. Megatong was the benefiary of the race proceeds.
