Flyweight standout Geje Eustaquio of Baguio City’s Team Lakay suffered a split decision loss at the hands of former ONE flyweight champion Kairat Akhmetov in the main event of “ONE Champion-ship: Total Victory” Satur-day night at the Jakarta Convention Center in Indonesia.
Eustaquio exercised patience in the first round as he waited for an ope-ning to land his strikes against his opponent. Eustaquio was able to hurt Akhmetov with an upkick, but referee Yuji Shimada mistakenly called it an illegal blow and gave the latter time to recover.
Both fighters ex-changed more blows on their feet and on the ground in rounds two and three, but Akhmetov’s takedowns and submission attempt ultimately secured a thin split decision nod for the Kazakh fighter. The win improved Akhmetov’s record to 21-1 while Eusta-quio fell to 9-6.
In the undercard, former boxer turned mixed martial artist Roy Doliguez scored his first victory under the ONE Cham-pionship banner with a knockout victory over Yago Bryan of Brazil.
Doliguez was behind on the scorecards, but a single left-straight to the jaw in the final round was all he needed to secure the victory. The punch sent Bryan crashing to the can-vas which prompted the referee to halt the contest at the 2:58 mark of round three.
The knockout victory improved Doliguez’s MMA record to 7-4 while Bryan dropped to 3-3.
