ISULAN, Sultan Kudarat — Tribal leaders in Maguindanao have condemned Saturday’s brutal killing of two Teduray natives by suspected Islamic State-linked Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF) members in Datu Hoffer Ampatuan, Maguindanao.
In a statement released Monday, deputy tribal chief of the Timuay Justice and Governance Santos Unsad said two Teduray farmers, identified as Nestor Daingan and Rene Usman, both of Sitio Buntod, Barangay Limpongo, Datu Hoffer, were on their way to the town center to deliver crops to the market when they were intercepted, hogtied, and killed.
Another member of the Manobo Lambangian tribe, he said, was abducted recently in Barangay Limpongo, Datu Hoffer, by about 40 gunmen and is feared to have been executed by the suspects.
“This is very inhuman, un-Islamic and works of evils,” Unsad said in the vernacular.
Froilyn Mendoza, a former member of the Bangsamoro Transition Council and leader of the Teduray Women Advocate, urged police and military authorities to put an end to the BIFF’s repeated harassment of Teduray communities.
Mendoza said at least 300 Teduray families move daily to adjacent villages for fear the BIFF might attack at night. They only return to their villages to farm at daytime. (PNA)
